Lindy Scholars
Program at Drexel University

Through the generosity of Philip B. Lindy, Drexel University has established the Philip B. Lindy Inner-City Public School Program (“Lindy Scholars Program”) to provide enhanced educational services to students, families, and schools in West Philadelphia. Our program aims to “level the playing field” and increase student retention, academic achievement, and access to post-secondary education. We want to inspire children to see a personal future in a technologically driven global economy and provide them with the enrichment and support that will ultimately enable them to be admitted to and succeed in college.

Tutoring
& Mentoring

Each student enrolled as a “Lindy Scholar” gets paired with a Drexel college student, or “Lindy Advisor”, who serves as both a tutor and mentor. Twice a week after school, trained Drexel tutors meet with their student(s) to assist with homework and enhance their learning. On select weekends, Lindy Scholars and Advisors meet on Drexel’s campus for fun social activities, and occasionally they go on trips to events in the city; including exhibitions at museums and other cultural activities.

The Lindy Scholars Program provides free math, writing, and literacy tutoring to selected students in grades 6-8 — enrolled in three elementary schools within West Philadelphia. Drexel staff, faculty, and student volunteers work closely with school administrators, students, and parents to help identify needs and then provide services on-campus and within the community to improve student performance and increase student interest.

Lindy Scholars Experimental Robotics Event

Here’s a video from the Lindy Scholars experimental robotics event at the ExCITe Center. Witness the creativity and ingenuity of our scholars as they bring their robotic creations to life! This innovative activity, developed in collaboration with Drexel’s Lunabotics group, showcases the exciting intersection of learning and technology.

Looking ahead, the Lunabotics team will bring this experience to one of our partner middle schools during the winter term, inspiring the next generation of innovators.
